ScottishPower increases energy prices for UK domestic energy consumers
With effect from the 10th July 2006, ScottishPower has announced that it is to increase the cost of its domestic gas and electricity prices. Soaring energy prices, where wholesale costs are now roughly 80% higher than this time last year have resulted in this decision being taken.
The increases average at 10% for electricity and 17% for gas. The prices will effect existing customers from the 10th July and new customers with immediate effect.
Price comparison service, Energylinx are already displaying these new prices and it is easy to see the impact of these on your home energy bills.
There is some good news in that in parallel ScottishPower has launched a new capped price energy tariff where energy prices are capped until the 30th September 2008.
With energy prices expected to continue to increase substantially over at least the next two years Energylinx would encourage all UK consumers to look seriously at one of the capped or fixed price energy tariffs available to them.
With some analysts already predicting 300% increases in wholesale gas prices over the next two years a capped deal today could save the consumer hundreds of pounds in the long term.
One of the suppliers has a capped rate energy deal coming to its end on the 30th June and consumers who opted for this tariff two years ago are surprised to see just how much energy prices have risen in two years.
"unfortunately we are by no means at the peak of energy price rises"

A new look for EDF Energy
EDF Energy has now updated their look, uniting their regional names under a new EDF Energy logo.
For many years you may have known their supply businesses as London Energy, Seeboard Energy or SWEB Energy, all part of the EDF Energy group but all trading as separate businesses.
This new look will see the future use of one brand, EDF Energy.
As a company EDF is a major generator in the UK of electricity, they supply over 5 million gas and electricity customers and serve over a quarter of the UK's population through their electricity network.
By combining all brands into one main brand EDF Energy will be able to provide an improved and even more efficient service, which will ultimately allow them to be even more competitive and sustainable as a business.

Whilst this brand change is not accompanied by new domestic energy prices Energylinx would encourage all energy customers to review their current arrangements and suggest that a quick look at the capped or fixed energy deals available in the market today might well offer the best medium to long term options available.
Without doubt this autumn we will see double digit price rises in the domestic energy market and capped and fixed price tariffs available today will almost certainly have been updated by that time making it too late to catch some of the best deals available today.

British Gas Click Energy tariff electricity element increase
Click Energy, the low cost online domestic energy tariff from British Gas has seen its electricity prices increase by an average 21.8%. The increase takes effect immediately for new customers and from the 1st July for any existing customers.
Click Energy was introduced on the 17th February 2006 at the same time standard British Gas electricity prices were increased in price by 22%.
The tariff is targeted at the savvy domestic customer happy to manage their account online, as a result the tariff is considerably cheaper than standard British Gas prices but this latest price hike substantially eats into that margin.
British Gas did state at the time of the launch of the Click Energy tariff that prices would be reviewed in July so this latest increase comes as no surprise although it will undoubtedly unsettle customers already on the tariff.
As with all energy customers Energylinx would encourage customers to review their own situation at least twice a year and with the recent increases in domestic energy prices Energylinx would encourage everyone to consider to possibility of moving to a fixed or capped price tariff.
Without doubt this autumn we will see double digit price rises in the domestic energy market and capped and fixed price tariffs available today will almost certainly have been updated by that time making it too late to catch some of the best deals available today.
