Telecom plus increase energy prices

Telecom plus has announced increases across the board for all its gas and electricity customers. Worst hit are those living in either the Scottish Hydro-Electric, Northern Electric and SWALEC distribution areas.

Customers residing in these areas will see their average gas and electricity bill increase by over 9.5%.The average across the whole of the UK is 8.21%.

This is the fourth energy company to introduce a significant price increase since the beginning of 2005.

During 2004 we saw frequent and substantial increases to the price of gas and electricity for your home and this year it is not expected to be any different.

Energylinx would recommend that every householder take a quick look at their current energy arrangements to find out exactly what is on offer.

Energylinx provides extensive data and analysis to the energy industry and with the price increases we experienced in the last 12 months the difference between the highest and least cost suppliers for a standard domestic customer is now on average £153 per year.

Consumers are urged to be careful with hidden costs and with the recent flurry of TV advertising by energy suppliers such as British Gas, Energylinx advise anyone considering their current fixed price offer to contact one of our advisors first. British Gas are currently one of the most expensive suppliers and their offer to cap your energy price comes at a further premium and an extended tie-in with a financial penalty should you move during the first few years.

With companies such as Telecom plus able to slash a typical British Gas domestic consumer's energy bill by at least £130 per year, it is unlikely that their capped offer will ever represent good value for money.

Returning to this latest Telecom plus price increase and how it will effect customers, Energylinx has prepared the following analysis:
