Price Rises Fuel Winter Energy Concerns for families

Consumers urged to be Energy Smart by industry watchdog

The cost of heating our homes is rising, which is prompting fears that many less well off households could be thrown into fuel poverty this winter. Gas and electricity price rises at the end of last year resulted in calls to energywatch, the independent watchdog for the gas and electricity industries, rising by 40% in one day and now the organisation is urging people to make the changes that will save them money and energy - welcome news indeed to many low income households following the festive period.

Approximately 50% of consumers have never switched supplier which means they may be paying up to £100 per year more for their gas and electricity. Prepayment consumers could save up to £50 a year if they switched to paying by direct debit. Consumers who pay by cash/cheque can save up to £20 per year.

To switch supplier you first need to check out best prices.

The easiest way to do this is to contact energylinx on 0845 225 2840 or log on to www.energylinx.co.uk.

Consumers can make considerable savings by being more energy efficient. Simple measures such as defrosting the freezer regularly, using energy saving light bulbs and turning off radiators in rooms that aren't being used are just some of the actions that can make a difference.
