Basic Power were one of the suppliers of gas and electricity to homes and businesses throughout England and Wales who were trading under the Utility Link Supply Licence.
On the 17th January 2006 Utility Link went into administration and as a result the 3,800 business customers and 7,500 domestic customers supplied under their licence through various brands including Basic Power have been automatically transferred to London Energy.
If a supply company fails, Ofgem has powers provided by licence conditions made under the Gas Act 1986 and Electricity Act 1989 to protect gas and electricity customers by automatically appointing a new energy supplier for them. In this particular case Ofgem have arranged that all Basic Power customers will be transferred to London Energy.
Energylinx are disappointed with the loss of Basic Power as an energy supplier as this will ultimately mean that those gas and electricity customers who had been supplied under one of Basic Power’s low cost tariffs will see a substantial increase in their energy prices.
